General Circuit breakers Recycling SF6 Leak rates Test equipment

Required for good SF6 handling and recycling

  • Where does the contamination products in circuit breakers come from and how much is there?
  • Proper equipment that handles the recycling and analysis of the SF6 gas.
  • Electrical power apparatus that has been designed for easy recycling procedures.
  • Procedures that gives the possibility to ensure the quality of the gas that has been reclaimed.
  • Methods to follow given standards.

Handling today

Today, the application of recommended guidelines and rules vary from the one extreme to the other. The reasons are many.

The big difference between GIS and AIS as it comes to the amount of gas used, is visualised by the fact that generally only gas insulated power equipment are systematically recycled. The cost of equipment and manpower of course also affects the implementation of testing procedures.

Gas purity and recycling procedures has different criterias worldwide even though some standards such as IEC60376 and IEC 60480 aims to satisfy the need for these criterias.
